I sleep better. I eat better. I am stronger and more coordinated. I have surprised myself with my endurance. Some exercise classes are harder than others, but I find that my “recovery” time is getting shorter the more that I keep working out. FAN camp has been a wonderful asset to me!
I love the camp. I was very nervous about joining due to some balance issues caused by back surgery and the resulting dropped foot. Angel assured me she could work with me and still get me a great workout. Where necessary, she modifies the exercise being done and I’ve even been able to start doing some that I couldn’t do in the beginning. I love the group exercise aspect and need the structure of knowing I have class. Without that, I tend to drop off my exercise. It gets pretty boring walking a treadmill every day. This is the first exercise I’ve enjoyed in years. I was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Right after, Angel gave a seminar on Diabetes. My doctor just told me to go on a diet and take Glucophage. Angel gave an excellent explanation and let me know how serious it was. I now also watch my carb & sugar intake. I love Angel’s daily nutrition and exercise tips. It informs us of things we need to know, but it’s not all dumped on you at one time and gives you time to absorb and put the tips in place. I am feeling healthier and have lost weight….two goals that I set from the beginning. Unfortunately, I have much further to go and I need the FAN Camp to continue on my journey.
First I thank God who without HIM I could never have done any of this. He has answered my prayers in providing a camp that’s fun and yet challenging. I was SOOOOOOOO lazy and now I just love this camp and I love the campers. We push one another and enjoy exercising together. I can’t wait to get to exercise and I don’t see it as dreadful punishment. I want (desire) to look and feel my best and I WILL. Secondly, I thank Coach Angel for her assistance, caring and most of all professional- ism. She is extremely patient and cares about each of us (individually as well as collectively). Her routines are AWESOME, especially my favorite “BURN BABY BURN”. I also enjoy the healthy tips she provides. But what takes her over the top of other trainers, is she watches and ensures we are doing the exercise correctly. She ensures are postures are accurate and has her mind in the game with us. She modifies the workout for everyone according to the shape they are in (and everyone is challenged regardless of the modification). I now am able to bend, touch my toes. The camp has made me want to strive to do much more. In fact, I share my learning's and desire to become a trainer. The most important thing I have taken away from this camp and from our Coach …I no longer have to eat until I feel full (only provide myself with enough food for nutrition). I always thought a full stomach was an indication I could now stop eating so I ate until I felt that fullness (boy how crazy yet refreshing to learn otherwise). I’m looking to learn so much more. I appreciate her very much and I love her camp.
When I started with Fan Camp I only focused on the workouts, but after our 1st weigh in and measurements, my results were not as expected. So I participated in the 21 day challenge and incorporated all of the information being provided, the workouts as well as the healthy eating life style and WOW what a difference!!! I thought I had good eating habits. I was wrong, when we covered the food shopping and diabetes seminar I learned a lot that I did not know. I’m more conscious of what I eat and I learned how to read food labels. This has not only helped me but my family as well. I also recently received my health assessment from the Henry Ford health screening and everything was normal (BMI, blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol). Normally my BMI is overweight and my Cholesterol high. Everything was in intact, which is the 1st in years. I have continued with all that the Fan Camp has to offer, which overall has gotten me more benefits than any other program I’ve participated in at DTE energy. I have been involved in most of the programs offered by Energize your life from the assessments to the coaches. What I like most with Fan Camp is that it’s like have a personal trainer in a group setting."
I was told about the FAN CAMP at Allen Road from one of my co-workers (Daphnie H.) I work at the Southfield location and decided I would try out the FAN CAMP at the Allen Road facility. I am getting married in September and wanted to lose some weight and become healthier. Since I started the FAN CAMP, my waist, stomach and hips have gotten smaller! My skirts are too big and I need to take in some of my clothes. My neck has even gotten smaller – my necklaces no longer fit tight. My wedding dress that I picked out 2 months ago already has to be taken in. I use to get tired quickly during the day, but now I don’t get tired as easily be- cause of the FAN CAMP. When I go grocery shopping, I now read labels because of what Angel taught us in the grocery shopping seminar. I drink a lot more water and a lot less soda and I eat more vegetables because of the camp. I feel so much better knowing that what I am eating is healthy for me. I really enjoy the FAN CAMP!
I really enjoy the FAN camp. Angel is a great motivator and her workouts are fun! During class, just when I think I can’t do another squat, push up, etc., Angel is there cheering me on and giving me that little push to squeeze out a few more! I have had high cholesterol for a few years now. My cholesterol was 212 when checked last June. When I had it rechecked in March, it was 171! The main driver for the drop was regular exercise through the FAN camp and Regular Trainer’s tips, challenges, and seminars have given me the tools to make better food choices. I typically get bored with repetition, but Angel is constantly changing it up and no workout is ever the same. I thoroughly enjoy going to class, and feel great afterward. I have been a part of the FAN camp for over 3 months now and I can definitely feel the difference. I feel better, I’ve lost some weight and some inches, my cholesterol is back to an acceptable range, and I have more energy to keep up with my kids.
Exercise is key to weight loss and overall good health. FAN CAMP at work ensures I can make this a priority in spite of my busy work schedule. Angel is very supportive of us all and understands our individual concerns/needs. Her workouts are different every time to keep it interesting. I feel stronger, healthier than most people my age. I actually have defined muscles in my arms that I never had before. I was at 150 lb when I started FAN camp in late 2012. I went down to 135 lb during 2013 and now maintaining at 138. My goal is 127 and I expect to achieve it through FAN camp. Angel’s weight loss challenges have really proven to me that you’ve got to cut sugars to achieve your weight loss. I never ate breakfast in the morning, but now I look forward to my delicious smoothie to get the day started. I also learned the small healthy snack during the day helps curb my appetite and keep me going. I’ve learned you have to plan ahead to have the right foods on hand.
It was April 2007 when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I knew I had to do something to bring this under control. Due to the unbearable pain in my right knee, it left me with the inability to exercise, so therefore, my weight soared to 215 pounds. My doctor insisted that I lose at first 30 pounds. After my knee surgery, I started my journey to do just that. I joined Weight Watchers, LA Fitness, Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Planet Fitness, Dolly Parton Diet, The Cookie Diet and this is just to name of few. I was sinking fast in deep depression. I was not happy with myself and neither was I happy with my size. Then this one day in 2012, I saw a FAN CAMP flyer and the outstanding transformations that everyone on the poster had made. I decided to join this class and now I must admit that I am a true Fan Camper. Since I’ve started in Fan Camp, I have been released from my high blood pressure medication, I am much healthier, my eating habits have changed for the best…I am much stronger. I feel more energized. I enjoy meeting and exercising with the other Fan Campers, because we support each other, we encourage each other and there is a bond that cannot be broken. COACH ANGEL has made a tremendous difference in my life and for others.
As a new employee at DTE, I found it difficult to maintain my exercise routine and healthy eating habits while adjusting to a new professional environment. Additionally, being new to Michigan, I was no longer checking in with my “health accountability buddies” from home regularly. I joined FAN Camp as a means of re-building a regular exercise routine, and I found that the FAN Campers were a strong support network that is positive and encouraging. I also found that it was much more convenient for me to work out with FAN Camp rather than to get in the car after a long day at work and drive to a gym during rush hour. FAN Camp helped me not only achieve my goal of rebuilding a regular exercise cadence, but it also helped me integrate and connect with people who are working to prioritize their health and support network. When I check in with family and friends from home, I am proud to share my progress in FAN Camp and how good it makes me feel to work alongside such a supportive group.
At the time I started FAN Camp, December of 2011, I was in need of structure in my exercise, as well as, my eating. I could not walk from the parking structure to my desk in WCB without getting out of breath. I met Angel during the EAA enrollment for the following year. I signed up to see what the class was all about and when she called me, I told her I didn’t know if I could do it. She invited me to a class to see if I liked it. I tried to prepare for the class by doing various videos at home. I came to a 6:00 AM class on my vacation day and worked out. The videos did not prepare me for Coach Angel. The class was intense, but I liked it. I have been coming ever since at 6:00 AM. Coach Angel and the class participants are motivating, encouraging and challenging. I have taken a lot of exercise classes in the past, but FAN Camp is the best. You will work your entire body and muscles you didn’t know you had. My weight loss for one year was 30 pounds and I have encouraged several people at DTE to become a part of FAN Camp. It is truly an asset to have this available. It is fun and convenient. We hold each other accountable and Angel holds all of us accountable. It never gets easier, never, but I know it is the best thing for me.
This is one of the best programs that DTE has had, it not only helps with my physical condition, but by it being at DTE facilities, it is more convenient for me to attend. I have a very demanding schedule and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to attend these types of classes off-site. Although the room is filled with other employees, I always feel that she is working with each one of us one-on-one because that is the level of attention that she gives to each individual student. In class we are all on different fitness levels, some are more advanced than others, but everyone is made to feel that they can be successful. Prior to the class I was struggling to go up and down the stairs from fatigue, I am able to do that now without any struggles. I have more energy throughout the day and evenings. The instructor is awesome, she motivates me and gives me the individual instruction that I need to be successful in improving my health and my quality of life. Thank you DTE for caring about my health and bringing in such a dedicated instructor, who not only cares about fitness, but cares about nutrition and about her students
I entered FAN Camp not necessarily to lose weight, but to help my- self maintain a healthy lifestyle by having the accountability of FAN Camp. I have thus far lost 5 pounds and over 5 inches around my- self, which is wonderful because it was not my goal to even lose any weight! I’ve drastically changed the way I eat. I’ve cut back on the number of calories, as well as increased the vegetable intake and fruit intake. I have more energy after work to spend time with my children, and spend a few extra minutes cooking a healthy dinner. I’ve learned a lot from Angel’s informative seminars. They are always very well put-together and contain real-world facts that we can take with us and apply to our everyday lives. Angel is a wonderful instructor; she knows everyone by name and is always encouraging and concerned about each individual’s welfare.
“I started out at WOW camp, someone I work with went to WOW and I talked to them about it and decided to do it! Weight loss just happened, because of the diet, and exercise classes. Also, we are constantly encouraged by the Coaches, and any questions/concerns I have I can go to Coach Angel for explanation, answers, etc. The classes are great and we can modify them to meet our own needs. I lost 20 pounds at WOW – I don’t think I have ever lost that much weight! I have also maintained my weight with FAN camp I’m sure I would be doing better at FAN camp if I could consistently be there 3 times a week (this is due to heavy work schedule which should be improved for the summer), but my goal is to lose 10 more pounds hopefully by end of summer. FAN camp has also contributed to much improved sleeping habits for me. I seem to be able to fall asleep quicker and stay asleep.

“Joining the W.O.W. Camp was the best thing I could have done! I was overweight and lacked energy and motivation. Trainer and nutritionist, Angel, knows how to motivate a person. She makes the workouts fun and knows how far to push a person during the workouts so you receive the best workout to help you reach your goal. She assists you in getting the results you are looking to achieve if you put forth the effort and challenge yourself during workouts.
“I had back pain for the past few years, I have been through various doctors, physical therapy and still pain when doing any type of activity that aggravates the muscles. Then I am on medication for a few days waiting for relief. After 21 days of the FAN CAMP Summer Sizzle, the pain is virtually gone and this past weekend I did heavy yard work and did not need any medication. I praise God for this prayer being answered.
One huge advantage is that Angel modifies the work out activities to address your body discomforts so you can do a workout, she watches and is aware of sensitive areas and always provides an alternative solution. This helps build up your strength to achieve the movement of the workout. The nutrition is another great learning experience as if you have never shopped for a diet, she is gives the guidelines and this is so encouraging. We found that a few friends joined and other friends were in the class so we became all accountable to each other.”

I was 30 pounds overweight and even with working out 3-4 days a week, I was not seeing the results. When I started with Angel 2 years ago, I was a bit apprehensive and did not think I would lose the weight. In a 6 month time-frame I lost 30 pounds and two years later I have kept it off. It is all thanks to Angel with her spectacular yet challenging workouts and diet plan. Even though I have changed locations, I still attempt the 15 minute journey to at least work-out 1 day a week with her.
It has been great participating in Fan Camp. The exercise has been very helpful and a fun way to start the day three days a week. I have lost 20 pounds since starting Fan Camp in January 2014. The exercise has been very beneficial toward getting in better shape and forced me to work on eating better. I am down from a 44 to a 42 pants size. Since I joined the FAN CAMP in Feb, 2011, I have seen great results. Everyone compliments me on how clear my skin is, how small my face is becoming and how much weight I am losing. I have learned so much from Angel’s Seminars and the way she explains the healthy way to eat. I look forward to coming to the FAN CAMP because we have a lot of variety and lots of fun. I use to take a kickboxing class and the routine NEVER changed. I always knew what we were going to do and when we were going to do it. I would get so bored and the time seemed to drag on and on, but with Angel and the FAN CAMP, I never know what our next workout or even or next move is going to be and I Love That. I need that variety to keep me going and I can honestly say that although the workouts are very challenging, Angel has a way of making them fun and making you feel as though you can do it. Last week, I was looking for a pair of jeans that I hadn’t seen in a very long time. My husband told me to check my suitcase from when we went to the Poconos two years ago and sure enough, my jeans from the past were in my suitcase. I was shocked to not only be able to put on jeans I could not wear two years ago, but when my husband said to me “you look better in those jeans today that you did when you first bought them,” I was very pleased to say the least. I have lost weight and inches and feel so much better since joining the FAN CAMP!
Angel, I just want to let you know that I'm really enjoying all aspects of your program! I appreciate having a different workout every time, rather than doing the same redundant exercises. I enjoy the challenges, although I haven't perfected them yet! LOL! I love the fact that your program is so comprehensive – it is like a one-stop-shop because we get great workouts, excellent nutritional information and the feel of personal training in a group setting. Most of all, though, I enjoy the tone you have set in class. There is genuine comradely and you encourage everyone to work hard without being over bearing!
You have a special way of making us work hard but also making all of us feel comfortable with our ability to do the exercises. While we are all doing the same exercises, some do modified versions until they build their strength and stamina to do the exercise the un-modified way, while others continue to build on their strength and stamina. This was evident during the fitness assessment we underwent in March. Everyone in class seems to have a good relationship and no one feels uncomfortable with their ability or inability to do things others can’t do.
In addition to the great workouts and the very useful heath tips, is the time in which the class is held. Because class is from 6AM to 7AM, I’m able to fit a great workout into my very busy schedule. If there wasn’t a class held during that time of day, I don’t think I would be working out as often as I do because I just don’t have the time do work out on a regular basis during after work hours.

Before joining the FAN Camp, I had participated in Weight Watchers (twice), the Curves Diet Plan, current member of Fitness 19 gym, DTE Nutrisum Healthy Weight program, Redbrick and numerous other programs sponsored by DTE Energy. I own enough diet and exercises books to open a library. I have a treadmill; several exercise tapes and exercise equipment. I have spent a lot of time, energy and money trying to lose weight. Needless to say I have been unsuccessful in meeting my weight loss goal.
I am a 5’7” female. My highest weight was in 2006. I weighed 192 pounds. I have lost some weight over the years. My weight now fluctuates between 177 – 187 pounds. When I joined FAN Camp on January 14, 2011, my weight was on the high end (187 pounds). At that time, I was desperate. I was so sick and tired of trying to lose weight. It was getting harder to take the weight off. I was always dieting and exercising but could get my weight below 177 pounds. I was ready to give up and just be fat. The first couple of classes in FAN Camp, I definitely wanted to quit. It was hard. I had been sitting on the couch overeating and sleeping since Thanksgiving 2010. My body wasn’t ready for all the activity but my mind was. I was determined not to quit. After about two weeks, I had more energy and I slept better. I stayed with the class. After about a month, my energy level was up. I could make it through the entire class. I wasn’t losing any weight, so I was ready to quit. I remained in the class. I listened to Angel’s advice on diet and exercising outside of class. I complied. Two weeks later, we had a weigh-in. I lost 4 pounds.
March 2011, Angel gave the class a 21-day Accountability Challenge. I have been on fire ever since. The challenge was to eat healthy (lean meat, fruit and vegetables), no sugar, no junk or fried foods. We were supposed to exercise 6 days a week for one hour and drink plenty of water. My partner and I won the challenge I have adopted much of Angel’s teachings into a lifestyle change. I eat three meals a day. I am never hungry. I don’t overeat. I don’t count calories or eat fake food. During the FAN Camp Pilot, Angel has done seminars/webinars on diabetes and nutrition. She has a seminar scheduled for April 2011 on high blood pressure. She also sends out daily emails call trainer’s tips and a monthly newsletter. Her seminars are very helpful. I found the one on diabetes to be very interesting. After learning about how our bodies are unable to process the excess sugar, I gave up sugar altogether. That means no table sugar, no pop, no fruit juice, no artificial sweeteners, no candy, etc. I will probably have a piece of cake or something one day. Right now it isn’t important to me.
Upon joining FAN Camp, Angel provided us with a personal notebook to chart our progress. She took our pictures and measurements. I use the notebook to keep up with the diet plans, monthly exercise routines, newsletters, seminar information and trainer tips. Angel is serious, professional, highly organized and motivated. As a camper, I want to be the same way. The things I like must about FAN Camp is the no judgment zone and correct information is given about living a healthy lifestyle. When I first join FAN camp, I was ashamed of my body. I felt fat and did not want to be seen in gym clothes. Angel and the other campers made me feel comfortable. We have people in camp in all shapes and sizes. We are all there for one goal, to be healthy.
There are many magazine articles, television ads, books, and diet plans that promise unrealistic results. They promise lose up to 14 pounds in 2 weeks. I thought it was something wrong with me. I have struggle for years trying to lose 10 – 20 pounds and couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it because I didn’t know what I was doing. Angel has taught me how to eat healthy and the correct way to exercise (not just walking on the treadmill 3 times a week for 30 minutes at 3.5 and calling it exercise). She didn’t make any false promises. She said it takes time and hard work. I have put in the work. I have surprised myself. I am now seeing some results. My arms are much leaner and muscular. I have calf muscles. My thighs are as hard as steel. I can bounce a quarter off my buttocks. I still have a spare tire but it is smaller. I am a work in progress. I’m 47 years old. My weight is now 173.4 pounds. I have broken through that brick wall of 177 pounds. I will sign up as long as there is a FAN Camp on site and I am able. I enjoy being able to exercise right after work. I have no excuses such as its cold outside, etc. The program provides nutritional information as well. Angel is available to answer questions about diet and exercise. It is like having a personal trainer. This is the best program that DTE Energy has ever offered!

WOW and FAN CAMPS are excellent programs for employees. WOW in particular allows those of us that are very overweight to make strides towards a fit and healthy lifestyle in a supportive environment. FAN also has these attributes while “taking it up a notch (or several)” as we continue our fitness journey. Coach Angel is knowledgeable about nutrition and fitness. IWhile participating in the FAN Camp program during the past 12 months, I achieved my initial goal of losing 30 pounds. The FAN Camp is the greatest thing that could have happened for me. I attended FAN camps at other locations prior to it being offered at DTE facilities. I am more successful in my weight loss and more health conscious when I am able to participate in the FAN Camp. I am more motivated to exercise in a group setting. If I had to do it alone, I probably wouldn’t get any exercise in. I enjoy the FAN Camp because it combines cardio, aerobic, and strength building. The cardio and strength building is tough, but it pays off. Angel is a great coach. She is encouraging and tough at the same time. She encourages you so you won’t give up with words like, “you can do it”, “don’t’ stop”, or “20 more seconds”. Angel works with you where you are. If you are not at a certain level, she will modify that particular workout to fit you until you come up to that level. The FAN Camp itself has a spirit of encouragement. We end each camp by encouraging each other with, “GOOD JOB” and a high five. I am so energized after the camp and feel like I can take on anything the day brings. I hope the FAN Camp will be around for a long time.”
My Testimony: Angel has a way of keeping individuals in the class motivated. She encourages people by name and makes the class fit each person’s fitness level. She is very conscious about work, work schedules and things like storms and how they might impact attendance in her class. She sends out very timely voice mails and emails and is always alert to issues in the class. Angel is not overpowering but just right when it comes to pushing her classes.
“The daily tips help me. It seems that she knows what I need when I need it. I had a day that I was not able to get my lunch in a timely manner due to work obligations. I ended up at a KFC and when I got in the office that afternoon, there was a tip about recovery from unfortunate situations that help me to continue on my journey of eating right. “Since being in the CAMP I have improved everything. I am more conscience about my eating habits and working out. Previously I would work out on my own at lunch time, but would never stay consistent. I would do good one month and then not go the next month. It’s so easy to get caught up on everyday life and not work out and eat the wrong things. Eating vegetables has always been a challenge for me. It’s not that I don’t like them, but I just don’t eat them often. Since being in the camp we have done two challenges where we need to consume at least 5 servings of vegetables a day. This has helped me a great deal. I now have 2 servings of vegetables for breakfast at least 5 of 7 days.

“Hello, my name is Angela. I attend Christ Temple Apostolic Church in Westland, and am currently the chairperson over the Nurses Ministry. I have been with the FAN CAMP for 3 months and it has been a great joy. I started off weighing 212, and now weighing 199. I take blood pressure medication and my pressure has been a lot better since I've been exercising. I'm also a wife of ten beautiful years, have five children, work, and go to school full time, and my energy level was just gone. But now, I have a lot more energy and eat healthier. As an employee of DTE and a member of the FAN Camp, I would like to challenge other employees to experience a well defined, well executed, total body work out that will offer the employees the opportunity to experience a gratifying life change. My story includes starting my journey 3 years ago with the scale never getting below 165lbs. I vowed in 2010 that I was going to make a life change. I went to Fitness USA, walked for 3 to 5 miles a day, worked out with a friend in-house, attended boot camp classes, Zumba classes, ran/walked on the treadmill 30-60 min a day and then at the end of October 2010, I came to the FAN CAMP by Visions of Fitness. The various exercises at the FAN CAMP changed my metabolism ratio and I began to lose weight as well as inches. Following the FAN CAMP program I learned how to eat correct portion sizes of food and incorporated more fruits and vegetables. I lost a total of 18 lbs and went from a size 10 to a size 8 and some size 6 clothing. The most important changes are I have are more energy, I am able to complete more circuits, work out using heavier weights and with the reduction in weight I can possibly reduce or eliminate my blood pressure medication expected in 2011. My family has a history of diabetes, strokes and hypertension I would like to reverse the possibilities of family health issues and I truly believe with the well executed programs exercise and nutritional educational information offered at the FAN CAMP I am truly on a path to success and healthier life style.”

“I began this journey with Angel in February of 2009 at Citadel of Praise. I knew I would work out but not really focus on changing my eating habits. I used the fact that I was going on vacation at the end of the month for my anniversary as a crutch to still eat poorly. Unfortunately when I came back I gained two pounds. “I joined Coach Angel's F.A.N camp in December 2014. This camp is awesome! The class is diverse with age, size, ability, etc. Everyone is very supportive. Coach Angel has put together challenging workouts, using your body and light weights. She has also created alternative workouts for people with different health challenges such as knee and back issues. Multiple classes are offered for any scheduling conflicts. Coach Angel is patient and makes you feel like you can ask ANY question. Every excuse that you can think of not to participate will be removed. You will love this camp. “Coach Angel, I have never belonged to a gym for fear of anxiety thinking everyone was looking at me. I was even more nervous to go to the gym at work because I see these people on a regular basis but found it to be the best decision I have ever made.
